Celebrating 10 Years in Business!
It’s hard to believe that I’ve just crossed over the 10-year mark in business, and you better believe that I’m celebrating so hard! This is a huge milestone!
The journey hasn’t been linear or smooth, but in addition to this milestone meaning that I’ve stuck with the process, it also means that I’ve been empowering other women for 10 years. And holy moly does that feel AMAZING!!
What began as consulting for women-owned businesses and non-profits in 2016 quickly grew into a mission to help other women realize the fulfillment and freedom of running their own business, creating their own schedules, and making money doing work they truly enjoy… all while wearing the myriad other hats they wear as partners, mothers, friends, community leaders, and caregivers (to self and others).
My vision over the years has evolved (more on that below) but my ambition around guiding, supporting, celebrating, and mentoring women to develop their potential and live life on their own time and terms hasn’t wavered. These days, that looks like bringing women the clarity, structure, and strategy the business side is lacking, so they can get back to the work they actually love.
I’m enormously proud of what I’ve created and achieved, and even though I haven’t reached all my goals, I’m proud of the resilience and grit I’ve drawn upon to stick with it.
Business, my friend, can be glamorous and liberating and joyful. And it can also be downright hard.
I reflected on what my business has done and looked like - and what I’ve experienced - over the past 10 years, and I want to give you an honest snapshot of it all.
The good. The hard. The ugly. Brain dump style.
Have worked 1:1 with more than 135 clients and dozens more inside my paid courses and programs
Built a multiple 6-figure business (it took years)
Created my own stages - in Denver, New York, and Israel
Built communities hundreds of women strong
Created a women’s entrepreneur conference called Sheer Impact Conference and hosted it 3 years in row with more than 150 participants (as a Denver-newbie!)
Did a quick pivot to an online platform less than 3 weeks before the 2020 conference due to the Covid pandemic (before any of us knew how to use these platforms to host people in multiple rooms simultaneously, feature different speakers, create space for engagement, etc. It was stressful and daunting AND, with a phenomenal team of tech experts, we pulled it off)
Had successful collabs and brand partnerships with companies like Acuity Scheduling (acquired by Squarespace in 2019), SendGrid (since acquired by Twilio), Oak Street Investment Advisors, Enterprise Coworking, Be Good To People and many other smaller, women-owned businesses
Launched a podcast - Small Business Growth Made Simple - though haven’t been consistent
Found consistency in the written word inside my weekly newsletter, MUSINGS
Held true to my values when the coaching industry went in a direction that wasn’t authentic for me
Been sued and had to spend more than $10k to defend a trademark we owned
Led and responded with integrity - every time I was challenged
Learned about what makes a good, well-balanced partnership or collaboration — and what doesn’t
Spent countless hours on calls with and responding to messages from clients well above and beyond what I was being paid, because it was what I wanted to do to show up for my clients’ success
Had clients go on to use the very foundations we developed to create multiple six-figure and million-dollar businesses (one even had an exit - read her story here!)
Developed and designed far too many courses to count, starting with my very first one in 2017: From No to Go: A Business Bootcamp to Launch Your Business in 90 Days (and, I’m thinking of bringing that one back)
Spent close to $65,000 investing in personal and business growth - some of those investments paid off while others felt like they contributed to me spinning my wheels and doubting myself
Developed warm, trusting relationships with my clients, some of which have turned into beautiful friendships
Moved my business overseas and integrated into an entirely new market (anyone who tells you that this can be done overnight is lying - it takes time, a lot of relationship building, and sticktoitiveness)
Waited for my people, my community, to reach out and check on me after Oct 7 - only to realize that the world changed that day, and many of my people weren’t who I thought they were
Ditched whatever mind drama was holding me back from deliberately claiming my niche as Jewish women, a few good men, and our allies
Hosted 3 retreats in Israel (on the beautiful Dead Sea and Mediterranean Sea) - and had to cancel 2 due to circumstances of w@r
Redesigned my website too many times
Appeared as a guest on more than a dozen podcasts and as a speaker/facilitator for at least 10 other organizations, conferences, and networking groups
Questioned my expertise (ridiculous but common, and one of the best reasons to have a mentor who reflects greatness back to you)
Helped clients generate millions of dollars (counting would be next to impossible given how our work set up their businesses for sustainability, profitability, and growth over time)
Developed and named my own methodology for guiding women through the early, foundational stage of building a business: Life-First Business Architecture
Doubted my strength to show up after a downturn
Cried that I had blown up my business by moving to Israel
Rebuilt my business after taking off time to support our family in the transition here
Designed breaks into the schedule instead of being constantly surprised by holidays, school closings, family time, etc.
Continued to raise my beautiful children as a triplet mama in partnership with my incredibly supportive husband, Adam
And the countless lessons learned:
⭐Clarity creates confidence, not the other way around.
I used to think confidence was something you waited to feel before you took action. Now I know that’s not how it works, not for me and not for the women I coach. You get clear on what you're building and learn how to do all the things you’ve never done before, and the confidence shows up.
⭐Your truth. Always.
⭐Keeping a business simple is the fastest way to grow
Every time I reinvented instead of repeating, redesigned the website again, added one more course, growth slowed down. Simple is what actually scales.
⭐If you started this for freedom… build it for freedom
I took real time off to move my family across the world and support them through it. The business was still there when I was ready again (though admittedly it needed a lot of nurturing and new growth). Today, life-first for me looks like going to my exercise class 3 times a week, walking Charlie in the middle of the day, making time to have meaningful, important conversations with my kids and take them to doctor’s appointments. That's the entire point of building it this way.
⭐Foundations can’t be glossed over or pieced together haphazardly
The clients who went on to build six-figure and even million-dollar businesses did it on foundations we took real time to build. There were no shortcuts. You can't skip that part and expect your business to soar.
⭐Progress over perfection is really the only way.
⭐Learning how to invest in yourself is its own skill
I've put close to $65,000 into coaches, courses, and programs over the years, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The right support at the right time is some of the best money you'll ever spend. But knowing what to invest in matters just as much as being willing to. Some of what I bought made a real, measurable difference. Some of it just had me spinning, because it wasn't what I actually needed at that stage. So get clear on what you're truly missing before you go looking, and learn to trust your own intuition about what will serve you. That's what turns spending into investing.
⭐Grit is a practice, not a personality trait, and it can be developed
I've rebuilt this business more than once. I’ve made hard decisions that shook my belief in myself and hit the bottom line. And I’ve had to sit in the not-knowing before things turned back around. Being able to move through the ups and downs comes from just doing it, from holding firm to the why, from showing up again and again, especially on the days I didn't want to.
⭐Narrowing (or niching) amplifies your authority
For a long time I hedged about exactly who I'm for. The day I stopped and said it plainly - that I'm here for Jewish women, a few good men, and our allies - my message got clearer and so did the women who found me (both Jewish and non-Jewish). Contrary to what most newbie business owners think, claiming who you're for out loud won’t shrink your business. It's what lets the right people recognize themselves in your work.
⭐Reach doesn’t matter as much as relationships do
Oct 7 taught me this one the hard way. I'd built communities hundreds of women strong, and when the world changed that day, I learned that some of the reach I'd been proud of was just numbers. The relationships that were real showed up (and I continue to thank those people - they know who they are!). The ones that weren't, didn't. I’ve always put my energy into people, not audience size, but this became a hard-earned lesson that I’ll always carry with me as a businesswoman. And the clients and community members who became true friends are worth more than follower counts anyway.
⭐Your values aren’t just a fun exercise. They’re part of the roadmap.
For me, integrity sits at the top of the list, and it's led the way more times than I can count. When the coaching industry chased trends that didn't feel like me, I sat them out, even when plenty of people were cashing in. And when a potential business partner turned around and sued me, I had a choice in how to respond. I chose integrity. That meant not name-bashing her, not trying to ruin her, just handling the lawsuit privately and moving on in a way I'd never regret. Every real decision I make runs through the same filter: does this work for me, and can I stand behind it?
⭐Growing a business is one of the greatest personal development journeys we can take… and who you become matters as much as the strategy, because a business can't grow past the person leading it
Ten years in, the biggest changes weren't in the business. They were in me. I questioned my expertise, doubted I had the strength to show up after a downturn, and had to become someone who trusted herself and could see her own brilliance before the business could stabilize. Every ceiling I hit turned out to be a ceiling in me first. It's the hardest part of this work, and honestly, it's the part I'm most grateful for.
AND, my friend, there’s more work to do, and I’m here for it!
So, what's next?
My vision has grown over these ten years, but the mission hasn't wavered: to help women leverage and monetize their expertise and use their voices to bring joy, financial health, and real change to their lives and the world.
And these days, I know exactly who I'm here for: Jewish women, a few good men, and our allies who are building something of their own and refuse to burn themselves down to do it. If that's you, and you're in that early, foundational, still-figuring-it-out stage, I'd love to walk alongside you.
