You Don’t Need More Time, You Need a Plan
Every solopreneur I know feels it: there’s never enough time. Not enough to check everything off your to-do list, and definitely not enough to build the business you imagined.
If 168 hours a week doesn’t feel like enough, you can hardly blame yourself! You wear countless hats: partner, mother, caregiver, volunteer, business owner, and of course, household “manager.”
But here’s what I’ve seen over and over again - time isn’t the real problem. Clarity is.
When you don’t have clarity over your day, you spend your limited time jumping between tasks, second-guessing decisions, and being reactive instead of proactive.
A plan changes all that. It gives direction, structure, and yes, even time to breathe.
Let’s look at what having a plan actually does, and how it can help you take back your time.
It Prioritizes What Matters Most
A clear plan starts with knowing who you serve and how you serve them. I saw this play out recently with my client, Rivkie.
When I asked who her primary offer was for, she immediately began telling me all the ways she can help people - some with trauma, others with debilitating anxiety, and still others with everyday stress. These are all different audiences, each needing a unique kind of support. Without clarity around her key offer - who it’s for and how she can help them - she had no idea how and where to find them or even how to connect with them.
A plan brought clarity and direction.
It Simplifies Decision Making
Every project brings dozens of small decisions: What should I do first? Is this worth my time? What’s the right next step?
Tamar, a marriage coach, learned this firsthand while creating her online course. She started with a copywriter and website designer before solidifying what the course structure and content would be. Along the way, she got overwhelmed with the seemingly endless steps of simultaneously building a course and the platform to sell it.
Without a plan, Tamar wasn’t making clear decisions because every task felt equally important.
Once we mapped a clear plan, she could see the path forward and make decisions with confidence instead of doubt.
It Saves You Time and Money
A clear plan prevents the common trap of spending on tools, software, or services before you need them.
In Tamar’s case, with a plan, she would have actually SAVED time and money. She would have had a roadmap, started tackling tasks one at a time, known what was next, how long it would take, and where to invest.
One thing I tell my clients is that I take it upon myself to help you save money. Too many solopreneurs and small business owners spend on resources they think are going to provide answers. But too often, it’s wasted money that doesn’t help them nearly as much as they anticipate.
When you map out your priorities, you invest strategically and really move the needle on your business.
It Creates Space and Ease
A plan brings calm, focus, and flow, because when you’re clear on what to do, you stop wasting energy on what doesn’t matter.
Your plan doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to:
Name your goals
Map your revenue
Align with your values and priorities
Build in rest and reflection
Break everything down into manageable steps
Your plan shouldn’t be rigid. Think of it as a guide that shows you the way, clarifies your priorities, and informs you of potential roadblocks. That way, when life happens, you can pivot with ease (or at least minimal stress).
